INDEX 08 Student Pavilion

Zayed University interior design students exhibited their projects at the INDEX 08 student pavilion in December.

 

INDEX is the region's largest and most recognized annual international interior design trade exhibition, and it attracts manufacturers, suppliers, vendors and designers from all parts of the globe. The student pavilion, which is always an integral part of the show, displays the vitality and creativity of young UAE talent. Once again, Zayed University's interior design students' high standard of work attracted the attention of international and regional professional designers and potential clients.

Karen Oremus' Artwork Honoured into Vukovar Museum's Permanent Collection

The travelling year long solo exhibition “Deconstruction/ Reconstruction” by Karen Oremus, Associate Professor in Art and Design, comes to a close on its Croatia Tour this month at the Vukovar Museum.

 

This Museum was heavily bombed in 1991 suffering horrific destruction to its structure and to the rich archaeological and art collection that it housed. Along with this Vukovar saw life itself, homes, churches, factories all come to a standstill as 2600 of its inhabitants disappeared without a trace.

 

In 1998 Vukovar reopened its doors to their museum, and has since been attempting to reconstruct the museum and its collection over the years. On December 4, 2008 several pieces of Oremus’ work were honoured into their permanent collection. Oremus states, “ It was important to have the exhibition close at this particular venue… The city’s deconstruction and reconstruction metaphorically convey what I aim to express in my work.”

Art Collector Purchases ZU Student Artwork

A painting and video installation created for National Day by a group of Zayed University students will soon become part of the permanent collection of Emirate gallery owner, businessman and artist Mr. Mohammed Abdul Latif Kanoo.

 

The three 240cm x 150cm panels, video projection, and audio titled “A Living Dream” was created by seven Abu Dhabi campus Art and Design students in honor of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and was exhibited at the Abu Dhabi campus during National Day festivities.

 

The panels will remain on display in the Abu Dhabi campus Y atrium until mid January. There will be an encore presentation of the complete installation on January 7 during common break (12pm-1pm), at which time the student artists will sign the canvases and will be available to answer questions.

Visiting artist from Italy to lecture at Zayed University

Mario Teleri Biason, Professor of Printmaking at Temple University in Rome, comes to Zayed University this week to lecture on antique and contemporary prints in Italy.

 

Mario, who is regarded as one of Italy'’s foremost experts in printmaking relating to both antique and contemporary prints, will present an in-depth study of his own creative work, which deals with the physical and spiritual deterioration of his home city, Venice, Italy.
